Learn techniques to start or improve your own home winemaking while creating your own wine during class in small teams of 2-4 & hone your wine evaluation skills with classes on sensory evaluation training and food and wine pairing. \n  \nFall 2025 Course Dates & Times: \nMondays 7:00-9:00 pm in the Stonefield Cellars Production Room. \n\nOct. 13th: Introduction – Basics of fermentation and winemaking.\nNov. 3rd: Principles of Winemaking – Racking\, barrels\, oak alternatives\, tannins. SUMMARY:Adult Field Course: Grandfather’s Starry Skies
DESCRIPTION:October is one of the best times of year to stargaze at Grandfather Mountain. The air is cool and clear\, and the summer constellations are still very prominent\, with some early winter sights making their appearance later in the evening. Our goal for this class is to create a familiarity with the night sky and learn the basics of stargazing that can be applied on your own on any clear night throughout the year. We’ll start in the classroom by exploring some of the best print and digital resources for exploring the night sky and cover some of the basics of stargazing and how to orient to the night sky. We’ll also discuss the use of planispheres\, star maps and star charts to find some of the most beautiful deep sky wonders that can be seen through binoculars or small telescopes. During the evening hours\, we’ll be out at various viewing locations on the mountain\, practicing our stargazing skills while looking for meteors and learning about some of the most prominent stars\, constellations and other objects visible this time of year. This event costs $60 for general admission and $51 for members of Grandfather Mountain’s Bridge Club – plus tax. Limited to 15 participants.

DESCRIPTION:The 38th Annual Goldston Old Fashion Day is on Sat\, Oct 11\, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This one-day street festival\, sponsored by the Goldston Lions Club\, features local arts\, crafts\, pottery\, jewelry\, live music\, food vendors\, and a petting zoo. There will also be a display of classic cars and tractors. The food court is located in the same area and features a covered seating area. \nMain Street will be closed to traffic from United Fire and Safety to the old BB&T Bank. The old parking lot will feature classic cars and trucks. C-Cape will also be on hand\, displaying their unique power equipment — including tractors\, engines\, and more. \nLimited seating is available\, so bringing a lawn chair is recommended. \nBe sure to stop by the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) tent to share your stories and memories of the Goldston area. Goldston is over 100 years old and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. CCHA needs your stories of Goldston’s past to help bring their collection to life. \nThis event is part of the countdown to Chatham Celebrates America 250.
