DESCRIPTION:One quarter of a million lights illuminate the sky in Downtown Galax\, Virginia. High Country Lights is a musical light show featuring one quarter of a million Christmas lights choreographed to your favorite sounds of the season. DESCRIPTION:The Birds of a Feather Trail Trot at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill takes place on Thanksgiving Day\, November 27. Participants can choose between a mellow two-mile course (mostly paved and grassy) or a more challenging 5K course with roots\, rocks\, and hills. Each distance offers both timed and untimed options. After the run\, participants can enjoy a slice of pie\, a free kids’ treasure race\, and an awards ceremony with games and giveaways. The two-mile course covers 2.04 miles with 134 feet of elevation gain and is rated easy\, while the 5K course spans approximately 3.38 miles with 217 feet of elevation gain and is rated moderately challenging.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 2025-2026 season of the Surry Arts Council Dance program.\n\n\nWelcome to the Surry Arts Council Dance Program! We are so excited to have you joining us for our classes. \nClass size is limited. Please call 336-786-7998 if the class is full when you attempt to register. New classes will be added. Classes begin in August and end following the recital in May. \nTuition is the same each month regardless of the number of weeks in the month or student absences. Tuition must be paid by the first day of each month from August 2025 through April 2026. There will be no tuition for the month of May. Tuition can be paid online through Eventbrite or by cash or check in the payment drop box in the dance studio or in the Surry Arts Council Office. \nFamily tuition is based on the number of class minutes each week. Family is defined as siblings living in the same household. If calculating monthly tuition for multiple children in the same household\, use ages 9+ prices. There will be a 5% discount if registration\, tuition\, and costume fees for the entire year are paid in full by August 1\, 2025. \nA $25 registration fee per dancer is due before the first day of dance class. The registration fee includes dance t-shirt and recital costs. \nA costume fee for each dance class is due by December 1\, 2025 The costume fee for each dance class is as follows: \n$ 75 per dance class (excluding clogging) \n$ 30 per clogging class \nAll fees are non-refundable. If you choose not to continue classes you must notify the Surry Arts Council in writing. DESCRIPTION:In addition to seeing Grandfather’s mascot\, Millie the Bear\, escort this year’s holiday tree through the Entrance Gate and up the park road to the Wilson Center\, visitors can also take part in snowflake-themed crafts while enjoying hot chocolate and candy canes. \nThe hour-long event begins at 11 a.m. and is included with park admission. The tree\, which will be harvested on Thursday\, Nov. 20\, is from Mountain Top Fraser Fir farm in Newland\, N.C. Owner Larry Smith has previously supplied trees to the White House\, North Carolina State Capitol and other prominent government buildings and residences. \nThe full schedule for the celebration is below. \n\n11 a.m. | Millie the Bear escorts the tree through the Grandfather Mountain Entrance Gate. Guests are welcome to park at an overlook or parking lot along the road to wave to Millie as she and the tree make their way up to the Wilson Center for Nature Discovery!\n11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Hot Chocolate and Candy Cane Bar and Snowflake Craft Table open at the Wilson Center.\n11:10 a.m. | Millie and the tree arrive at the Wilson Center. (Guests are also invited to help welcome Millie and the tree at this location!)\n11:10 a.m. | Tree is carried into the Wilson Center.\n11:15 – 11:30 a.m. | Millie is available to “meet and greet” guests!
